Do You Have A Secular Degree?
At EMET, we value the diverse academic backgrounds of our students. We recognize that many called to ministry bring valuable expertise from secular fields such as Education, Business, or Social Sciences.
To ensure our doctoral and graduate candidates are fully equipped with a Sola Scriptura foundation, students entering a Master’s or Doctoral program with a secular degree are required to complete our Biblical Foundation Bridge (BFB).
The BFB is a curated suite of courses designed to "bridge the gap" between secular academic theory and biblical truth. This transition phase ensures you have the theological vocabulary and hermeneutical tools necessary to succeed at the highest levels of religious scholarship.
Required Bridge Credits (12–15 Credits) in courses such as, Bible Doctrines, Biblical Synthesis ( Mastering the overarching narrative of the Old and New Testaments), and Biblical History.
Evaluation: Upon acceptance, our Dean of Students will review your secular transcripts.
Customization: We will tailor your Bridge Suite based on your prior experience and your chosen degree goal.
Integration: Once the Bridge courses are underway, you will be cleared to begin your advanced doctoral seminars and research.
"Do study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." — 2 Timothy 2:15

The federal definition of “credit hour” is based on the Carnegie unit of academic credit and is defined in 34 CFR 600.2 (and further modified in 34 CFR 668.8 (k) and (l)) as...
“An amount of work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student achievement that is an institutionally established equivalency that reasonably approximates not less than:
one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out of class student work each week for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester or trimester hour of credit, or ten to twelve weeks for one quarter hour of credit, or the equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time; or
at least an equivalent amount of work as required in paragraph (1) of this definition for other academic activities as established by the institution including laboratory work, internships, practica, studio work, and other academic work leading to the award of credit hours.”
Tertiary level learning doesn’t always happen in the classroom. We understand that the skills and knowledge you have acquired may have come through serving in various areas of Ministry, the Church or even on the job. Here at EMET Seminary, we believe you should be awarded college credit for that college-level learning.
Our evaluation of Prior Learning Assessment Program (PLA) is designed to help you figure out what you are eligible to receive credit for, thereby aiding in your matriculation. EMET's goal is to provide convenient options to request credit for college-level learning and experience you may have gained through work and training, ministry, military or community service, online or individual study.
